Storms produced 2-3 inch hail around the Childress area late yesterday afternoon. Then the cold front moved through our area overnight and here are some of the wind gust reports from the Tech Mesonet:
Near Tech: 59mph
White River Lake 68mph
Reese Center 60mph
Wind Advisory for much of our area will continue until 12pm as wind speeds continue in the 20-30mph range from the north-northeast. The will gradually drop this afternoon with highs 30 degree or more cooler than yesterday, nearing 67.
TONIGHT: A chilly one with lows in the lower 40s with a clear sky. Wind speeds will be calmer 5-15mph changing more southeasterly.
MOTHER'S DAY WEEKEND: It will a nice weekend with highs in the mid and upper 70s. We continue the lighter wind 10-15mph from the southeast and more cloud cover on Mother's Day.
RAIN NEXT WEEK: Rain chances will increase across the desert southwest Sunday and we may get some of this activity late Sunday into early Monday morning. An upper level disturbance will bring a better chance for showers and storms Monday through early Tuesday. We need the rain and a good amount of it to catch up to the average as we are now over an inch drier. This set up looks to bring some widespread rain, but models differ on where the heavier amounts will end up. So still some details to work out through the weekend, but at least it's promising than we have had in a while.
Have a great weekend! Matt with the next updated forecast tonight on the News at Nine.
