Covenant Health offering COVID-19 antibody testing

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Starting today, Covenant Health will start offering COVID-19 antibody testing. This is the first antibody test to be available to the public in our area.

The purpose of antibody testing, according to Covenant Health, is to inform patients if they have already been exposed to the virus. Covenant says a lot of patients can be asymptomatic carriers of the virus, meaning they are spreading the virus without showing any symptoms.

The testing will be done inside two wellness buses parked at the Covenant Health Southwest Medical Park off 98th and Slide, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Antibodies are found by testing a blood sample. Results will be returned to Covenant within 3-4 days and will be mailed to the patient.

Covenant says it will only see insured patients. Insurance information will be collected but no copay will be charged at the time of testing. Patients should bring a photo ID and health insurance card.

The test is available for any healthy individual over the age of 18. People who are sick will not be seen at this location. Patients will have to wear a mask while sample collection is being done.

Covenant encourages people who test positive for antibodies to continue following CDC precautions. It also says those who do test positive for antibodies can reach out to blood donation sites to determine if they are a candidate to donate plasma.

If you have any questions regarding COVID-19 antibody testing at Covenant, call 806.725.0083.
