UPDATED: Lubbock area schools announce outdoor graduation plans
LUBBOCK, Texas -
Following Governor Abbott's announcement Tuesday on restrictions for how school districts can conduct in-person graduation ceremonies, Lubbock-Cooper ISD and Frenship ISD have announced plans regarding graduation.
Lubbock-Cooper received approval to host outdoor graduation ceremonies for Lubbock-Cooper High School and New Hope Academy set for the first week in June.
The district announced New Hope Academy's graduation ceremony will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, at Pirate Stadium. And the high school will hold its graduation ceremony at 8:30 p.m on Friday, June 5, at Pirate Stadium.
Frenship ISD is currently working on a plan to hold an outdoor graduation ceremony to honor its senior class.
The district is in the process of consulting with city and state officials to ensure its plan is in compliance with the governor's executive orders and social distancing criteria.
Based on new guidance from Gov. Abbott and the Texas Education Agency, “an outdoor graduation ceremony may take place in any county on or after June 1.”
Frenship High School will hold its graduation ceremony on Friday, June 5, at 7:30 p.m. at Peoples Bank Stadium.
To stay within the state and local guidelines, seating will be limited and each senior will be issued four tickets for guests. The ceremony will we livestreamed for those who cannot attend.
Following these same guidelines, the district plans hold a drive-in graduation ceremony for the Reese Education Center to honor their 14 seniors. The Reese graduation is tentatively scheduled for May 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Reese back parking lot.

Lubbock ISD shared its plans for graduation ceremonies to honor more than 1,500 seniors throughout the district.
Lubbock ISD staff is working in coordination with state and local officials to ensure all events follow health and safety guidelines.
All graduation ceremonies will be at PlainsCapital Park. Families will receive additional details this week about event access, seating allowances, and other important information. The schedule is included below:
