We are ending the month of April dry and with only 0.02" this month it is the second driest April on record. Not looking any better for the start of May either with hotter days ahead. Today will be around 10 degrees hotter nearing 90 with a breezy southwest wind 12-22mph.
TONIGHT: High clouds move in from the west for a mostly clear night, low milder nearing 63 and still a light breeze 10-20mph.
MAY 1st 2020: Record heat expected with highs nearing 100, but mid and upper level clouds may help to keep us breaching the triple digits for some locations. The record high for Lubbock is 96 set back in 2012, forecasting 99 with the wind staying breezy.
WEEKEND: Record heat continues Saturday with the breezy conditions. Then a weak front will drop highs a little for Sunday. Dry and sunny as the ridge of high pressure flattens across our region.
NEXT WEEK: Highs climb nearing 100 again Monday, then a stronger front to bring a relief dropping highs to the 80s into midweek. Wind speeds will be staying on the gusty side with no chance for rain in the forecast. Things may change with rain chances possible late next week, still a ways away but something to look forward to.
Have a great Thursday! Matt with the next updated forecast tonight on the News at Nine.
