Not as hot today, more record highs to come

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

We beat the record high by 2 degrees in Lubbock and reached 96. Overnight a gusty northeast wind from a cold front pushing through the area. This will drop highs to around the average for this time of year. High near 78, sunny and a little breezy through the early afternoon. A great day to fly a kite or go for a walk.

TONIGHT: Clear and cool with the low near 51.

END OF APRIL: We end this month dry with only 0.02" of an inch recorded in April. This is the second driest April on record! Temperatures will warm as a ridge of high pressure begins its eastward movement into our region. High temperatures climb around 10 degrees with a breezy southwest wind.

EXTENDED: This ridge will continue to bring the heat as temperatures climb close to 100 Friday and Saturday with new records possible. One thing that might keep us from reaching the triple digits will be some cloud cover around our area. A weak front drops highs a little for Sunday, with another front into next week.

Have a great Wednesday! Matt with the next updated forecast tonight on the News at Nine.
