Families host parade for local nursing home residents

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Individuals in our area hosted a parade for residents at Southern Specialty Rehab and Nursing Home.

The parade comes just two weeks after the facility completed a mandatory quarantine issued by the city after an employee tested positive for the coronavirus. Stacy Arnett's brother has been in the facility for nearly three months. She says it was one of the hardest days of her life when she was told she had to stop visiting.

"Six feet apart doesn't stop our hearts. That's my motto. I want my brother to hear me honking. I want Jesus to hear me honking, and all the Lubbock people to know that when we stick together we can fight this covid and all these folks can have visitors. These staff members can have a break, maybe get a raise, and go home and have a good nights sleep," Arnett said.

The facility did successfully finished its quarantine, but will still have to follow rules set by the city concerning nursing homes.
