Spur Police Officer and K9 hold weekly readings for youth

SPUR, Texas -

The Spur Police Department has gotten creative in reaching out to its youth during isolation by live streaming weekly readings with Officer Keeton and K9 Dodger.

The police department has created a coloring book that officers have been handing out, with a contest to see who can draw the best picture of K9 Dodger. The winner will take a picture with K9 Dodger and received a framed picture.

They've also been doing weekly readings to the boys and girls of Spur. Last week they read a Blue Clue's story for all those boys and girls looking for a bedtime story.

K9 Dodger joined the Spur Police Department back in February. Dodger was rescued from a shelter. Animal Farm Foundation noticed that Dodger had the special talents to become a Drug Detection Dog.

Recently, a number of police departments and schools across the country have added shelter dogs to their police force as an inexpensive and highly effective resource to help combat crime. Through the Animal Farm Foundation's (AFF) Detection Dog Grant Program and Sector K9, shelter dogs are trained to become Weapon and Drugs Detection Dogs to assist police officers in fighting crime.
