Doing Good in the Neighborhood: Lubbock teen spreads joy with chalk art

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

A Lubbock teenager is going viral for his art skills.  15 year-old Jordan Simmons' chalk art is bringing joy during the challenging times surrounding COVID-19.

Simmons' art is featured on sidewalks in the Lubbock area but the reach has been nationwide. He's drawing everything from pictures to make children happy, to portraits of first responders for their families. One drawing features a nurse, drawn for her mom.

"She was just so full of joy. Her daughter went to New York to help out with the coronavirus. And I guess it was just heartwarming for her to see her daughter right there in from of her," Simmons said.

Simmons has a process to his art. He first sketches a piece out on paper, then schedules a time to go to a person's house to get started. He tapes the area off, and works on his masterpiece.

Simmons tells FOX34 he plans to keep taking requests and traveling around the city to lift spirits.
