LUBBOCK, Texas -

Texas Tech's Health Sciences Center has more than 500 fresh facial coverings thanks to the Junior League of Lubbock.

Volunteers sewed each mask from donated materials. It's part of the West Texas 3-D Relief Consortium. The group makes everything from personal protection equipment to ventilators for use in our region.

"We've no doubt completely exhausted every piece of elastic that exists in theatre at Texas Tech. There isn't any left," Sharon Robinson, with the Junior League of Lubbock, said. "And as we were running out of elastic we had members that were buying sheets at Walmart and Target and stripping the elastic out of the fitted bottom sheets. So, it's been amazing."

Along with the hundreds of masks donated Friday, the Junior League is assembling 400 more specialized personal protection equipment.

The N-99 masks will be used more specifically for treating COVID-19 patients and in operating rooms.
