LUBBOCK, Texas -

A former doctor serving life in prison for hiring a hitman to kill a romantic rival is back in Lubbock.

Deputies transferred Thomas Dixon back to the Lubbock County Detention Center Thursday from Randall County.

Back in 2012, Dixon hired his business partner to kill Lubbock pathologist Joseph Sonnier.

In December 2018, the Seventh Court of Appeals in Amarillo overturned his conviction, and let him out on $2 million bond.

Earlier this year, the state's highest court reversed that decision and, earlier this month, finalized his conviction.

Lubbock District Judge Jim Bob Darnell revoked Dixon's bond and ordered him to return to jail Monday.

Dixon turned himself in that day.

His attorneys are appealing his case to the U.S. Supreme Court.
