United Way continues to support Lubbock area during pandemic

LUBBOCK, Texas -

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, many people, businesses and organizations in Lubbock are stepping up to make life easier for others.

The Lubbock Area United Way continues its tradition of giving back. The non-profit put together a virtual COVID-19 resource center where people can go to find solutions to problems they may be facing due to the virus.

The resource center includes things like rent assistance, medication, utilities and child care. The United Way has also partnered with other local foundations to create the South Plains COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund.

The fund has raised more than a million dollars and goes back into local non-profits who, in turn, help people who need it right during these unprecedented times.

"There are so many people who have never had to think about a lot of these services much less use them. So many people's employment situations have changed. Their hours have been cut back or they've lost their job completely or they have kids home full time now," Devin McCain, with the Lubbock Area United Way, said.

She said the best thing those at home can do to help is by reaching out to a cause and give back during this time.
