Testing data shows Texas is slowing spread of COVID-19

AUSTIN, Texas -

Testing data shows Texas is slowing down the acceleration rate of COVID-19 spread.

It's measured by double timing - or how long it takes for confirmed cases to double.

In March, it only took three days for cases to double in Texas as testing expanding. Now it's six days. State leaders call that one of the most sensitive indicators of how we're doing against the virus.

"Testing is not a solution. The solution is one thing, and that is to follow the stay at home orders that you reduce your changes of contracting COVID-19," Gov. Abbot said.

Gov. Abbott announced Walgreens will begin providing drive-thru testing in our state. That could add up to 3,000 rapid, 15-minute tests a day. The details have not yet been released.
