Experts help boost immune systems from a distance

Posted: Updated:

Vitamins and supplements may help you build your immune system to fight COVID-19. Natural Health Market is making sure customers get expert advice to figure out what they need to be taking.

Through phone calls, curbside service, and shipping out products, Natural Health Market is trying to offer the same level of service from a distance.

"We're able to give detail descriptions and help the customer find the right product in the store," Natural Health Market General Manager Morgan Carpenter said.

Many regular customers are following their normal practice, but also trying to help plant the seed of wellness to others.

"They're even more excited now that others are kind of vamping up their supplement use or paying attention to their diet," Natural Health Market Manager Hunter Wells said.

According to the C.D.C., vitamin and mineral malnutrition impact our health and economy through diseases, obesity, heart disease, and some cancers.

"If you're not getting those in your regular diet or whole foods in general, then you can fill in the gaps as far as vitamins and supplements would go," Wells said.

The managers recommend core supplements like a multivitamin, fish oil and a pro-biotic, and also immune boosting supplements during this pandemic.

"Such as Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin A, and Zinc is also very popular to be taking right now," Carpenter said.

Vitamin C is necessary for the growth, development and repair of all body tissues. It's involved in many body functions, including formation of collagen, absorption of iron, the immune system, wound healing, and the maintenance of cartilage, bones, and teeth. Vitamin D plays a significant role in the regulation of calcium and maintenance of phosphorus levels in the blood. These factors are vital for maintaining healthy bones. Vitamin A is important for normal vision, the immune system, and reproduction. Vitamin A also helps the heart, lungs, kidneys, and other organs work properly. Zinc helps your immune system and metabolism function. Zinc is also important to wound healing and your sense of taste and smell.
