LEAD working with city to ease stress of unpaid utility bills

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Leaders from Llano Estacado Alliance for Democracy are working with the city to alleviate pressure for those affected by COVID-19.

Cinthia Quintanilla from LEAD is partnering with Lubbock utilities to ease stress over unpaid bills.

On March 16, City of Lubbock utilities suspended all late fees and disconnects following the emergency declaration, but customers continued getting robocalls warning their utilities would be shutoff.

Quintanilla is helping in the city's efforts to make sure those calls were stopped. Additionally, the city is offering a deferred payment plan and extending policies on shutoffs, late fees and payment plans for 30 days after the emergency declaration is lifted.
