US Census: about 2/3 of Lubbock County has not responded

LUBBOCK, Texas -

About two thirds of Lubbock County has failed to respond to the census so far, according to the Census Bureau.

With social distancing guidelines in place, there won't be a census taker coming to your home until summer.

The census is incredibly important as it determines congressional representation, electoral college votes and federal funding for our area.

"Those funds are used to help develop new schools, build new roads, help with develop new businesses, as well as looking at your hospitals and your health care clinics and services they may need to put into different population segments," Stephen Buckner, with the U.S. Census Bureau, said.

Your response is required by law under the Constitution. You can do it online - here - or by phone. It takes about 10 minutes.

If you don't respond, a census taker will visit your home sometime this year.
