UPDATED: Stepping Stones Nursery & Preschool closed for cleaning after COVID-19 exposure

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The City of Lubbock started investigating a possible case of COVID-19 connected to a local daycare center Wednesday.

Stepping Stones Nursery & Preschool blames someone who broke quarantine for potentially exposing children to the virus. In a letter to client families, administrators explain the child had direct contact with someone who tested positive.

That family member broke quarantine to take the child to the daycare for drop-off and didn't tell anyone about being a carrier. The city's health department is awaiting the child's test result, but the daycare anticipates it to come back positive.

The preschool is asking teachers, children and their families with high-risk exposure to all go under a two-week quarantine. The city will follow up with client families, even if the test returns negative.

The facility will be closed until Monday so staffers can sanitize it.
