City of Lubbock confirms 23 new COVID-19 cases, 1 additional death
LUBBOCK, Texas -
The City of Lubbock Health Department reported 23 additional confirmed COVID-19 cases Tuesday, bringing the total to 100 cases.
The city also reported another death, but no specifics about the case were released.
A significant number of the new cases are associated with the ongoing outbreak at Whisperwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. 60 individuals at the facility were screened Tuesday afternoon, according to the health department.
During a news conference webinar Sunday evening, health director Katherine Wells reported about eight of the confirmed cases involved people who have recovered and completed the required quarantine period. The first case was reported in Lubbock about two weeks ago.
The Texas Department of State Health Services is reporting additional cases on the South Plains including seven in Hockley County, four in Terry County, one in Gaines County, one in Hale County and two in Lynn County.
As the case counts have increased across the South Plains and the state, Gov. Abbott extended social distancing guidelines until April 30 and announced all schools will remain closed until May 4, unless extended.
26 cases were confirmed by the city Monday, with new cases being identified each day.
