Texas Tech to issue student refunds for housing, dining plans

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Texas Tech classes will be online only starting Monday.

Tech President Lawrence Schovanec addressed concerns Thursday of students and May graduates via youtube.

In the message Schovanec says on-campus housing payments will be refunded from the end of spring break to the end of the spring term. Unused dining dollars and prorated meal plans will roll over to next semester. Graduates will get a refund for any unused money.

Schovanec called the decision to cancel in-person graduation ceremonies emotional and disappointing. He says TTU is doing all it can to honor the May 2020 graduates.

"To all the graduates of May 2020, you will have a special place in the history of our university. The virtual graduation will be better than you might think and we'll be sharing more details about that soon. Also, I visited with athletic director and we are planning to invite the May 2020 graduates onto the field at halftime of a football game this fall and we'll honor you then," Schovanec said.

Schovanec is hoping graduates will have an opportunity to actually walk across the stage in August.
