YWCA continues to offer childcare

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

From the YWCA of Lubbock:

As schools across the state have had to close in the wake of COVID-19, the YWCA of Lubbock is stepping up to provide care for students whose parents’ are still working. Our health care workers and first responders as well as many businesses and companies are still at work and need a safe place for their children.

The YWCA of Lubbock will continue to operate all of its child care centers and will offer extended “spring break study camps” for school aged students affected by school district closures.  Hours will be 7:30 am to 6:00 pm.  The YWCA follows the guidelines of the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics for the protection of children and families during this pandemic.

“We know parents need to go to work and kids need to keep learning.” Said Glenda Mathis, Chief Executive Officer of the YWCA.  “The YWCA camps will allow kids to access their online studies in a safe environment with structured outside time and a nutritious lunch. “

The YWCA is a CCS provider and will work closely with parents and their work schedules to design a program that helps families and employers get through this crisis.

Currently, we have made modifications to our program to include:

•Drop off and pick-up of students is conducted outside the building.
•Taking the temperature of all persons before they enter our building.
•Anyone with a temperature over 100 degrees will not be able to attend or enter the building.
•If a child becomes ill during the day, they will be isolated from the classroom until they can be picked up.
•Aggressive changes have been implemented around handwashing and sanitation.
•Germ Blast is used every evening at every campus.

For infants, toddlers and preschoolers, parents should call (806)776-9734 for any questions.

For school-aged children, parents should call (806)776-9505 for any questions.
