Texas Tech cancels May graduation ceremonies

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Texas Tech has canceled its May graduation ceremonies.

Commencement was originally planned for May 15 and 16. The university's working on plans to hold a virtual ceremony to be streamed online.

The school adds it will provide the opportunity for those graduates to participate in a future face-to-face ceremony at August commencement if it is safe to do so.

Below is a statement posted on the university's website

Texas Tech University is working to address the potential effects of the COVID-19 virus on our spring Commencement ceremonies. Updated guidance will be available on this website no later than March 30. Additionally, graduating students will be contacted via email with any information related to possible changes to the May 2020 Commencement ceremonies.
