If schools end up closing, there's a plan to keep students fed. The South Plains Food Bank is prepared to step in for kids on free and reduced lunch and breakfast plans.

"The food bank is going to continue to do what we do and that's feed people," South Plains Food Bank Director of Development Meagan Bratton said.

In an effort to be ahead of the game, 1,200 boxes have been given to students to take home while school is out. If school cancels, the South Plains Foo Bank is looking at different options of delivering meals. CEO David Weaver said this could look like the Summer Food Service Program where kids show up to a park and the Food Bank with provide food.

Baylor Collaborative with the Texas Hunger Initiative has launched a website with data on the different feeding programs at I.S.D's around the state.

"It's a great resource for school districts that are looking for models or things they could do in their own communities," Baylor Collaborative on Hunger & Poverty Heather Martinez said.

The U.S.D.A. and Texas Department of Agriculture have given the Food Bank waivers to serve people curbside. Those waivers will also make it easier for anyone affected economically by community closures to be screened and qualify for assistance from the Food Bank.

"There is no shame is saying I need some help," South Plains Food Bank CEO David Weaver said.

At this time, volunteers are not needed. Donations are appreciated as additional expenses are expected for more food boxes.

"Every dollar that we receive is the equivalent to three meals," Weaver said.

The South Plains Food Bank will continue operations on a regular basis.
