A man has admitted to robbing two Lubbock banks last month.

Matthew Courtney admits he robbed both the City Bank near Texas Tech February 21 and the AimBank near 65th and Slide a few days later.

In the City Bank robbery, Courtney confessed to writing a threat on a deposit slip then handing it to a teller. Courtney ordered the teller to hand over the money. When the teller surrendered it, Courtney walked out.

Police identified him with fingerprints on the note.

In the AimBank robbery February 24, Courtney wrote "you're getting robbed" on a piece of cardboard and threatened the clerk. The teller put money into a bag for Courtney, saying she feared for her life. Courtney admitted to taking a couple of the teller's business cards and left.

Police searched a hotel nearby, where Courtney was staying. They report finding matching clothes to what was seen on surveillance video as well as cash inside a bag along with the clerk's business card. They arrested him at another hotel, in his car, where he had hundred dollar bills in his lap.

Courtney faces up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and unspecified restitution.
