The Big 12 Basketball men's and women's basketball tournaments have been canceled, amid concerns of the spread of Covid-19 coronavirus.

Texas Tech play-by-play voice Geoff Haxton reported the news on Double T 97.3 during the pre-game show. Texas and Texas Tech were scheduled to tip at 11:30 Thursday morning. Players were on the floor warming up when they were sent back to the locker room. There was a small contingent of both teams' fans in the Sprint Center. Haxton said the fans appeared upset. Wednesday the league announced attendance for each team would be limited to 125 people close to each program. 

Kansas City, Missouri Mayor Quinton Lucas declared a state of emergency for the city Thursday. The declaration runs for 21 days; during this time all events with more than 1,000 attendees within the city are canceled or delayed. 

Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby said Thursday morning there are no known Covid-19 cases among anyone who works at the Big 12 or any member of the league's teams.

Bowlsby also said he feels bad for teams' seniors and the teams that won Wednesday night. 

The Big Ten, SEC, ACC, AAC, Pac-12 and Big East also announced its respective conference tournaments are off. The Big East's Thursday morning game between St. John's and Creighton was called after the teams reached halftime.

Bowlsby said all other Big 12 championships scheduled through April 15 have been canceled. This includes gymnastics and equestrian events.

Texas Tech and West Virginia's baseball series scheduled for this weekend has been postponed

The NBA announced Wednesday evening it is suspending games until further notice. Two Utah Jazz players have reportedly tested positive for Covid-19. Major League Soccer is shutting down for 30 days. Major League Baseball is expected to also announce it is delaying the start of the season. The National Hockey League has also announced it is suspending games. The PGA plans to continue play without spectators for the next month.
