Iraqi War veteran and family recipient of newest Homes for Heroes

LUBBOCK, Texas -

A veteran in our area was surprised with the gift of a new home.

Russell Snodgrass is an Iraqi War veteran. He was deployed in 2003 as part of the first invasion and served as a Navy Corpsman with the Marines. His unit was one of the first units into Baghdad and part of the symbolic destruction of the Firdos Square Statue.

Due to a back injury and nerve damage, Snodgrass was unable to re-enlist and has been dealing with complications since.

The hero home is built and donated to the family by local vendors, tradesmen, and builders of the West Texas Home Builders Association.

Snodgrass and his wife Ashley say they're speechless and know they've moved back to the right place.

"It's the community around here, it's the main reason we moved back home. It's just the kindness and generosity of people, and family, and this is where we want to raise our kids you know," Russell said.

The Snodgrass's new home will be fully furnished by H-E-B. It's expected to be finished around October.
