Big 12 announces limited access to basketball tournament games
LUBBOCK, Texas -
In an effort to protect fans from potential coronavirus infection, the Big 12 commissioner announced the conference is limiting access to the Big 12 Tournament.
Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby made the announcement Wednesday during a news conference. It was a unanimous decision by the Conference Board of Directors.
"Obviously, we don't do this lightly, we are blessed to have the best basketball tournament in all of college basketball and to have to take these steps is painful for everyone that's involved," he said.
Each team will have access to 125 tickets and will be ticketed game by game. The venue will be cleared after each game. This includes both men's and women's tournaments.
The 2020 Big 12 tournament is at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Games began Wednesday and go until Saturday, March 14. Tonight's games have not been affected. Going forward, the announcement will impact games scheduled Thursday through Saturday.
Texas vs. Texas Tech is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
