Texas Tech Lady Raider basketball senior Brittany Brewer was named to the All-Big 12 first team and defensive team on Monday, while sophomore Chrislyn Carr earned honorable mention All-Big 12 recognition.
The recognition marks Brewer's first selection to either the All-Big 12 first team or Big 12 All-Defensive team. This is Carr's second-straight season to earn All-Big 12 honorable mention.
Brewer has turned in the best season of her career to this point of her senior year. The Abilene, Texas native is the only player in the country averaging 15 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks per game, and was named a top-10 finalist for both the Lisa Leslie Award and Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award.
The Lady Raider senior ranks second in the nation and first in the Big 12 with 4.4 blocks per game, and is one of five players in the league who has turned in 15 double doubles this season.
Brewer is the school record holder for blocks in a season with 127, and counting, through 29 games. She is also the only Big 12 player to record a triple double this season, posting 12 points, 14 rebounds and an NCAA record 16 blocks in the Tech win against Louisiana Monroe in December.
Carr has been one of the top point guards in the Big 12 this season, especially passing the ball. The sophomore is averaging nearly five assists per game this season to rank second in the Big 12, and is one of two players in the conference to have three double-digit assist games this year. She owns the top two single-game assist totals in the Big 12 this season—13 assists against Oklahoma State on Feb. 1, and 12 assists against Northwestern State on Nov. 22.
The Davenport, Iowa, product has scored in double digits in 22 of 29 games so far this season, and has hit a three-pointer in all but three games played.
Brewer, Carr and the Lady Raiders open play at the Big 12 Tournament on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. against Kansas.
