New details: Victim in capital murder is defendant's mother

UPDATE: 

A woman jailed and charged with capital murder is accused of killing her mother after making threats do it a week ago, according to police reports.

Police arrested Leticia Smith, 49, early Sunday morning after responding to a call about a domestic disturbance. Officers found the victim, Wanda Porter, 79, on the ground and unresponsive inside the home in the 3300 block of East 16th Street. She died at the scene. The initial police report did not describe how the victim was killed, but there are indications of a head wound. 

It was the second time in one week that officers had been called to the home. According to a police report filed on March 1, officers had to break up a fight between Smith and her step-father where she threw a knife at him. Family members told investigators Smith had come home drunk and belligerent. In the report, Wanda Porter is identified as Smith's mother. 

During the March 1 incident, family members reported Smith screamed "I'll kill you all" to her mother, step-father and niece. 

Smith is booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center with a bond totaling a little more than $350,000 on charges of capital murder and resisting arrest.

Lubbock police are investigating a murder Sunday morning in the 3300 block of East 16th Street.

Officers responded to a domestic disturbance just before 5:00 a.m. when they found 79-year-old Wanda Porter inside the home unresponsive. She was taken to UMC where she later died.

Based on the investigation, 49-year-old Leticia Smith was taken into custody and booked on charges of capital murder and resisting arrest.

This investigation is ongoing.
