Health Dept: No need to worry about coronavirus

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK -

Lubbock's Public Health Department insists you do not have to be worried about the coronavirus if you have not traveled overseas.

The department is dialed in on conference calls with the CDC daily. The main message is to be aware, be vigilant and do not panic.

"We're watching it," said Katherine Wells, director of Lubbock Public Health. "If we get confirmed cases here in Lubbock, we would be making those announcements."

Wells says the health department is working with health care providers to monitor and prepare for worst-case scenarios. She stresses you are still at more risk this season for the flu than the coronavirus.
