Texas Tech honors Andre Emmett by raising funds for Dream Court

LUBBOCK, Texas -

After Texas Tech basketball star Andre Emmett was shot and killed last fall, Red Raiders have worked hard to continue his legacy. They are teaming up with Nancy Lieberman charities to build a Lubbock Dream Basketball Court to honor him.

"It's what Andre would have wanted," Texas Tech Head Basketball Coach Chris Beard said. "It's a way to honor him that I know he would support. Dre had a foundation where he was helping kids in Dallas. That was just Andre."

The fund's goal is $25,000 and Tech moved in for the assist right when the opportunity presented itself.

"It's something that you never wish that you had to do, but you feel completely honored to be involved in that process and making sure the memory of Andre is put forth is a positive light," Drew Ingraham with Texas Tech's marketing department said.

He said the hope is for the court to not only be a nucleus for basketball, but for community engagement.

"A place that people can gather inspired by the legacy of Andre, to not only play basketball, but also share memories and spend time together inside the City of Lubbock," Ingraham said.

"I know he was always enjoying the role of being a dad, he has two kids," Coach Beard said. "I knew he was always a great son and he's somebody that is really missed and it's an honor to honor him."

The court will be near 34th and the West Loop. Click here to donate to the fund.

Emmett will be honored during Texas Tech's 11 a.m. game Saturday against Texas.
