LUBBOCK, Texas -

Rodriguez was sentenced to 50 years for the death of her 1-year-old son.

The jury found Madison Rodriguez guilty of aggravated assault in the 2015 death of her 1-year-old son after almost 45 minutes of deliberation.

Rodriguez was 18-years-old when she was charged with capital murder in 2015, alongside ex-boyfriend Charles Flournoy. He was indicted on a charge of injury to a child after Rodriguez’ 1-year-old son, Mason Rodriguez, died.

The defense pointed fingers at Flournoy but, during closing arguments, prosecutors said his actions do not negate Rodriguez' and both are responsible for the infant's death.

On June 20 2015 Rodriguez's son had just celebrated his first birthday, when he went into cardiac arrest.
According to his autopsy report, the infant had suffered a 2-inch skull fracture, that ultimately caused his death.

During police interrogation a few days after the boy's death, Rodriguez admitted to police that she had forcibly thrown her child on the hard floor during an argument with Flournoy.

"I took my anger out on an innocent child," she told them.

Defense argued police used intimidation and manipulation to get Rodriguez to falsely confess.

She will have to serve at least half of her sentence before she is eligible for parole.

In the meantime, Flournoy remains in jail awaiting trial for his charge.
