Yancey dubs self 'Reagan Republican', challenging Cornyn

LUBBOCK -

There are four Republicans seeking to replace Senator Cornyn, running in the primary for U.S. Senate.

Mark Yancey is one of them. He's from the Metroplex, a veteran of the finance industry who describes himself as a "Reagan Republican". Yancey says Cornyn has not protected Texan interests in more than a decade.

"We have a pattern of watching Senator Cornyn being told how to legislate. It's an absolute fact, we've seen it, it's documented," Yancey said.

Cornyn has served in the Senate since 2002.

"I want to legislate specific to the people who are here and what their interests are," Yancey said. "Not what the party is telling me to do, and not what Mitch McConnell wants to do. I want to do what Texans want to do."

Cornyn's campaign tells us he will be visiting Lubbock March 2, the night before Super Tuesday. Virgil Bierschwale, Dwayne Stovall and John Anthony Castro are also on the Republican ballot for Senate.
