Xcel Energy to refund its customers more than $39 million

LUBBOCK -

Xcel Energy plans to refund more than $39 million in fuel costs to its customers as a result of low-cost wind energy resources. The average customer will get a $35 credit on their bill. This one-time payment will go out in June and July, depending on when Xcel reads its customer's meters.

Xcel Energy reports natural gas prices have continued to drop across the region and adding the Hale Wind Project near Plainview is dramatically lowering fuel costs.

This is the third time Xcel has refunded fuel costs since January 2019. This brings the total amount of refunds to $70 million.

Xcel is planning on finishing another wind farm near Portales, New Mexico next year.
