LUBBOCK, Texas -

Special skills students at Lubbock-Cooper High School were showered with love today.

Senior Catherine Wright wanted to celebrate everyone this Valentine Day.

"I really bonded with them and I wanted to do something special to let all these kid know that they're loved and know that everyone cares for them," she said.

22 students were paired up with pom squad members, cheerleaders and football played. The event became a school-wide effort. They exchanged corsages, boutonnieres and candy bouquets hand-made by floral design students. Photography students built a photo-booth to capture memories and art students even pitched in, framing the pictures as gifts.

"I think that we need to let them know that people care about them and people are always here for them and that the whole community is around them and we all love them," Wright said.

Sophomore Emma Bailey is a student in Lubbock-Cooper's Life Skills Program.

"Today's just really been a fun day. I mean like being here, being here with friends that I love, having great teachers. I mean like come on, you can't go wrong it's Valentines Day," she said.

This was the inaugural Valentine Pal Day. The District plans to continue hosting the event each year.
