Reilly: 'Secret is in the dirt' for Texas Tech Basketball

LUBBOCK -

Texas Tech Basketball is starting to hit its stride. The Red Raiders have won three in a row and sit at third in the Big 12. John Reilly is in his 4th season as Tech's head strength and conditioning coach. He balances running a tight ship with working around players' schedules.

The workouts are individualized. Reilly and each player will decide on the best program and then they get to work.

"The secret is in the dirt, that's what we say around here. There really is no glamour in the grind. You're going to get dirty, you're going to get gritty, and you're just going to have to get after it every day."

THE TRANSFORMATIONS HAVE BEEN CLEAR AND CHRIS BEARD HAS BEEN PLEASED WITH THE PROGRESS. HE SAYS HE SAW THE POTENTIAL WHEN THEY HIRED HIM.

"John Reilly is one of the best in the business in my opinion, bEARD SAID. "He gets it, he understands it, but more importantly he can translate what he knows into the student athlete."

"I've never worked for a guy like Coach Beard. Once I got to know him and what he's about, it made my decision really easy," REILLY SAID.

Reilly got a 60-thousand dollar raise after last years run to the national championship, and beard appreciates their similar shared values.

"I think every day when I wake up there's a handful of people that want to win as bad as i do and John is right at the top of that list," Beard said

Tech returns to the court Saturday for a matchup with oklahoma State in stillwater.
