LUBBOCK, Texas -

Courtney Dobbins was sentenced to 27 years late Thursday afternoon.

A man was found guilty Thursday morning of shooting his ex-girlfriend last February.

Courtney Dobbins attacked his former girlfriend, Alexas Hernandez, in her home after a fight. He fired the gun, the bullet grazing the victim's neck. Prosecutors say Dobbins beat her with a handgun to get his point across.

Dobbins fled to Odessa, where Ector County Deputies arrested him.

The surgeon testified Hernandez's wound wasn't self-inflicted and that Hernandez told her multiple times Dobbins shot and beat her.

Dobbin's was found guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He faces up to 20 years in prison with the possibility for parole.
