Red Raiders in Seventh after first day in Puerto Rico

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – The Texas Tech women's golf team finished round one of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in seventh place with a team total of 299 at the Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Grande.

In what would prove to be a difficult day for scoring for all competitors, the Red Raiders concluded the first round at 8-over and were one of 12 teams to finish above par.

Tech was led by a trio of 1-over performances on Sunday. Gala Dumez, Sofia Garcia and Amy Taylor all notched three birdies in their first 18 holes of play to end up in a tie for 16th heading into Monday's second round.

Anna Dong and Cecilie Nielsen both tied for 50th after posting rounds of 5-over.

In total, the Red Raiders carded 14 birdies as a team and had the second-best scoring average on par threes with a mark of 3.15. Taylor was one of two competitors to birdie two of the par threes on Sunday.
