Red Raiders Ranked No. 3 in NCBWA Preseason Poll

Posted: Updated:

Texas Tech baseball will begin the season at No. 3 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason Poll, the organization announced Monday. This marks the fourth preseason poll to place the Red Raiders at No. 3.

Tech has been in the top 10 of all six preseason polls, premiering at No. 3 in the NCBWA, Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, Perfect Game and the USA Today Coaches Poll. It was also slotted at No. 6 by both D1Baseball and Baseball America.

The No. 3 ranking matches the highest preseason positioning for the program in school history. It is the first time in program history the Red Raiders have started third in four different polls as the 2018 squad was ranked third in three polls and the 2019 club earned two No. 3 rankings.

This is the third straight year Tech has started at No. 3 in the NCBWA's initial ranking. Tech wrapped up its historic 2019 campaign at No. 4 in the NCBWA's final rankings after claiming its third Big 12 title in four seasons and advancing to the College World Series for the third time in four years.

The Red Raiders are the highest of six Big 12 teams listed in the poll, which extends all the way to 35. Oklahoma State was placed at No. 18, Oklahoma at No. 24, TCU at No. 28, Texas at No. 30 and West Virginia at No. 35. Several non-conference opponents made the list, including No. 9 Mississippi State, No. 14 Florida State, No. 16 Stanford and No. 27 Dallas Baptist.

This is the latest in preseason praise for the Red Raiders as Tech was voted by the Big 12 coaches last week as the preseason favorite in the conference for the third straight year. Additionally, Tech led the league with six selections to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team, including one of only three unanimous selections in junior Dylan Neuse.

Opening Day for the Red Raiders is set for Friday, Feb. 14, at 1 p.m. against Houston Baptist. The matchup launches a four-game weekend for Tech as they host HBU for two games Friday and Saturday before facing Northern Colorado on Saturday and Sunday.

Individual game tickets are now on sale. Tickets can be purchased on TexasTech.com at this link, or over the phone at 806-742-TECH (8324). Fans can also purchase in person by visiting the Texas Tech Ticket Office, which is located on the east side of Jones AT&T Stadium.
