As we've reported over the past few weeks, law enforcement agencies around Lubbock are increasing patrols after traffic fatalities in Lubbock nearly doubled in 2019 from the year prior. The plans for this increased enforcement happened before two first responders were killed while working a crash scene in north Lubbock.
On Wednesday, Lubbock Police, the Lubbock Sheriff's Office and Texas DPS partnered with a focus on drivers speeding and also those who do not move over or slow down when a first responders, tow truck or TXDOT vehicle have lights activated.
On the first day, these three agencies made 487 traffic stops around Lubbock. Top violations, according to LPD, were speeding and failing to move over or slow down. The department did not report how many citations were issued.
