LUBBOCK, Texas -

Each year at the Big 12 Basketball Tournament, Phillips 66 honors residents around the conference's markets for their impacts on their communities. This year, two out of the three are West Texans.

Matt White is the Caprock AMBUCS Director. It's a nonprofit who's mission is to raise money through basketball tournaments. It goes towards creating mobility for people with disabilities. This year, he's receiving an extra boost.

"They said they would be willing to donate money and spotlight our organization and me," White said. "I was on-board from there because that $6,600 is going to go a long way for our group."

The money will go towards AmTrykes (specialized tricycles for people lacking motor skills to operate a tradition bike). The money isn't the only benefit to the organization.

"We're getting a little bit more extra recognition from the Lubbock community. We're always looking for new members and looking for new people in the tournament. It's been a really nice surprise for us this year," White said.

Leditt Butler is the other Lubbock recipient. He's the founder of Hub City Street Hoops, a basketball league dedicated to keeping kids stay on the court and out of trouble.

"We're just playing basketball all day and figuring out what they want to be and what they want to do in life. That's the great thing about it. It gives me peace and I enjoy it," Butler said.

The donation is just an added bonus to the main goal of these residents.

"Giving them the opportunity. You know, we're all looking for that opportunity. Whether it's a good job, basketball, school, wherever it might be we're all looking for the opportunity," Butler said.

White and Butler will be honored during the semifinals of the tournament, which will take place on March 13 in Kansas City.
