No diagnoses here, Lubbock prepared for coronavirus

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK -

Despite there not being any confirmed cases of coronavirus in Lubbock or Texas to this point, the city's health department is working with health care providers to prepare for the possibility of a diagnosis here.

The health department is monitoring state and national announcements, distributing advisories and education information, and reviewing testing and isolation protocols.

Staff with the department are on-call 24/7, just in case.

Anyone who has recently traveled to Wuhan, China should watch for symptoms including fever, cough or shortness of breath.

The health department recommends these steps for everyone to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses like the novel coronavirus, as well as the flu:

- Wash hands frequently
- Cover coughs and sneezes
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands
- Disinfect surfaces
- Avoid contact with people who are sick
- If you're sick, stay home
