State of the City address sets 2020 outlook, Mayor Pope provides roadmap for new year

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Lubbock Mayor Dan Pope praised the city's resilience during his State of the City address Tuesday.

He said the deaths of Fire Lt. Eric Hill and Officer Nicholas Reyna are things Lubbock won't forget.

"We got to see Lubbock at its best last week. We stood strong, we stood together. Tears flowed and compassion flowed literally down our streets. But I think we can pull through it together," Mayor Pope said.

Looking forward the mayor's priorities for 2020 include staying on top of the city's debt and neighborhoods. Paving roads will be a key aspect of that.

Mayor Pope said there are more than 50 miles of unpaved city streets in Lubbock. There's also a big focus on Citibus this year, including a comprehensive study to improve it.

The mayor is also focusing on parks and neighborhood development, including using federal funding to grow home ownership in north and east Lubbock.
