New bond proposed for Frenship ISD

Frenship ISD has proposed a nearly $300M bond for the upcoming school year to accommodate its "exponential" growth. Because the district is one of the fastest growing in the state, district leaders want to add a new high school, middle school and elementary school. The bond would add three cents to your property tax rate per $1000 of home value. An average home in the district is $185,000. So that would be another $48 in taxes a year. Most residents seem to be on board. The vote to pass the bond will take place on Saturday May 2.

Megabus may come to Lubbock

The Chamber of Commerce is courting a new travel option for getting to the metroplex. Megabus is a city-to-city bus system that serves areas across the country. Representatives from the company met with the chamber's transportation committee about possibly bringing the service to Lubbock. Megabus is still in the early planning stages, and has a lot of research to do before making its decision. In Texas, its buses run in Houston, Dallas, Austin and San Antonio.

Importance of the census

In March, you'll receive an invitation to complete this decade's survey.  The U.S. census plays a big role in the amount of federal funding our city receives.  Each resident in the census is worth $150,000 a year to our area. That's why city leaders say it's crucial to be counted. The city is inviting residents to learn more about how the census affects our city at the 2020 census kick-off forum Thursday. It'll be at Texas Tech's International Cultural Center.

The U.S. Senate approved rules for the senate impeachment trial of President Donald Trump

The vote came early this morning after a marathon day of arguments.
It was a party- line vote -- 53 to 47. The rules put off a decision about witnesses and documents until after opening statements are given. House impeachment managers and the president's legal team will have three days each to make their 24 hours of trial arguments. Democrats aren't satisfied with the changes, and accuse McConnell and Republicans of trying to rush through the impeachment trial.

Military officials say more U.S. troops are now being evaluated for potential injuries from an Iranian missile strike.
Iran hit a base in Iraq earlier this month, in retaliation for the U.S. killing one of its top generals. Now, U.S. central command says several troops were transferred for observation to a medical facility in Germany. The pentagon initially said there were no casualties from the strike.
