Texas Tech sophomore Kyler Edwards has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week after averaging 23.0 points per game and going 8-for-10 on 3-pointers in a pair of wins over Kansas State and Iowa State last week.
A guard from Arlington, Edwards recorded a career-high 24 points last Tuesday in the win at Kansas State after hitting 9 of 14 shots with three 3-pointers before going 5 of 6 on 3-pointers on Saturday against the Cyclones. Edwards established a career-best with his five 3-pointers in the game and finished with 22 points to help the Red Raiders to the 72-52 victory.
Edwards is the first Texas Tech player to earn Big 12 Player of the Week this season and follows four Big 12 Newcomer of the Week selections from Chris Clarke, TJ Holyfield, Jahmi'us Ramsey and Terrence Shannon, Jr. It is also the first award for Edwards in his collegiate career who has now scored in double figures in 10 games this season. His five 3-pointers against the Cyclones broke his previous career-high of four 3-pointers against Northern Colorado where he hit four and scored a freshman-season high of 19 points.
He comes into this week averaging 12.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game for the Red Raiders where he has started all 17 games. Edwards, who is sixth in the Big 12 with a 1.89 assist-to-turnover ratio, played a reserve role in all 38 games during his freshman season where he helped lead the Red Raiders to the 2019 Big 12 regular-season championship and the 2019 NCAA National Championship Final. He has scored 412 points in his career with 57 3-pointers made.
The No. 23 Red Raiders (12-5, 3-2 Big 12) return to action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday against TCU in Fort Worth. The game will be broadcasted on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
Isaiah Moss earned Big 12 Newcomer of the Week after he scored 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including a career-high tying six 3-pointers in the Jayhawks' road victory at Oklahoma. It was Moss' second 20-point effort of the season and his 11 3-point attempts were a career high. In the win at Texas, the senior guard scored five points and pulled down a season-high five rebounds.
