Lubbock ISD encourages community to wear yellow in support of first responders

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Several schools within Lubbock ISD are encouraging the community to wear yellow Friday, January 17, to honor the Lubbock first responders killed and injured in the line of duty.

The idea was started by a Coronado High School student and has quickly spread to other schools within the district.

"Unfortunately it takes a tragedy like this to realize how much similar we are than different and how much stronger we are whenever we come together over a common purpose of wanting just to show hurting people that we care for them and that you're in our prayers," senior Ryan Smith said.

Smith says he chose yellow because it's the brightest color and represents hope for the families.
