LUBBOCK, Texas -

All is quiet in the lower depot district, at least for now.

Level nightclub's doors will remain closed, as the T.A.B.C. continues to investigate.

It was a deadly start to the decade, on New Year's Day 2 victims were shot and killed at the establishment on Buddy Holly Avenue.

On Friday, the T.A.B.C. issued an emergency 90 day suspension for the nightclub.

The commission can suspend a business' permit if it is determined it puts public safety at risk.

Stephen Sanders has been a vocal critic of the incident.

He's joined other concerned citizens to discuss how to move past this.

"I'm not against the bar owner having a place, but I want the bar owner to go according to protocol and do things the right way," Sanders said.

While the group wants to a permanent shutdown, they're trying to tackle the bigger issue at stake. One they say they'll need all hands on deck for.

"With numbers we are more effective, so we need the whole city to be involved in the process that we take to address this issue of crime, especially with the teens," Sanders said.

The coalition has created the "Hub City Guardians" to help stop violence among the youth of Lubbock.

Sanders is also working on a mentorship program with Lubbock ISD to help troubled students.

"In hopes that what's going on with them, won't leak into the streets, because it starts right there. And they just need someone who cares about them who understands that they can talk to," he said.

He believes there is room for positive growth.

"If you want to make a difference, it's gotta be in your heart. And I believe that, the city showed me that there are some people who have it in their heart to see us do better. And I'm just excited about that, and I look forward to things getting better," Sanders added.

There are also plans to have a town hall meeting. The "guardians" plan to invite the public, city leaders and club owners to attend and help develop a strategy.
