LUBBOCK, Texas -

Federal court records show a man from Seminole accepted a plea deal for a federal sex crime, admitting to repeatedly assaulting a friend's child for years, including on a trip to Alabama.

Michael Don Billups, 55, pleaded guilty to interstate transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity. Billups told prosecutors he had been friends with the child's family since 2012, when they lived in Hobbs.

Back in October, court records show the victim told his mother Billups had been abusing him for years -- since he was ten years old -- with the latest incident in Summer 2019. The victim told his mother, according to court records, Billups bribed and guilted him to keep him from telling his family.

Billups faces up to life in prison with the possibility for parole, up to a $250,000 fine, and unspecified restitution to the victim's family.
