Trial for man accused of sexually assaulting a child suspended until Monday

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

The trial for a man accused of continuously molesting a child has been suspended until Monday.

Ascensio Martinez is accused of molesting a girl in Slaton between 2010 and 2013. On the stand yesterday, the victim described three incidents to the jury.

She testified he abused her and forced her to touch him, then told her to not tell anyone about it. She told jurors she was only in seventh grade for one of them and it continued into high school.

During opening statements the defense claimed the victim and her mother had "ulterior motives" and the case suffers from shoddy police work.

If convicted, Martinez faces up to life in prison with the possibility for parole.
