Lubbock's Giving Tuesday campaign nearly doubles goal for 2019
Lubbock's Giving Tuesday campaign nearly doubled its goal this year with 59 non-profits raising a record-breaking $523,000.
Checks were presented to the organizations by the Community Foundation of West Texas Tuesday morning. Organizers say it's no surprise Giving Tuesday surpassed it's goal, crediting the generosity of West Texans.
"It's West Texans. It's big hearts -- and West Texans give to West Texans, West Texans give to home and they support our region. And that's really the reason is our people," Community Foundation President Stephen Warren said.
The campaign launches each November and ends at Midnight the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
It was founded in 2012 by New York's 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation. It made its way to Lubbock back in 2015 by the Alstrom Angels in partnership with the Community Foundation of West Texas.
