We have a FOX34 Follow-up on students sending holiday cheer to seniors across Lubbock.
Elementary schools partnered with "Hopeful Holidays" to deliver letters to nursing home residents Christmas morning. The hundreds of well wishes were packaged with other comforting gifts, to share the love and compassion the residents may not otherwise get.
"Oh, it means everything to me," said Connie Fisher, who lives The Garrison Care Center. "There's nothing like these young people coming up here and giving us gifts. It's the meaning of Christmas and Santa Claus, but it's just the spirit of giving."
Kami Johnson is a student at Westwind Elementary.
"I think it will make them smile and make them happy," Johnson said. "Because people don't realize how much it would mean to them unless they really see it happen."
All of Westwind's fourth graders participated in the card drive. Idalou and O'Donnell students also joined with "Hopeful Holidays" to contribute. Teachers tell us it meets their goals of inspiring kids to be good citizens.
