Army son surprises dad with visit home for Christmas

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Christmas came early for one Lubbock dad.

Cesar Salas' son, Tazmin Salas, a practical nursing specialist who is stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, arrived home early to surprise him.

Cesar, who has worked at United Supermarkets for about seven years, said he thought it was just going to be another day at work.

"It was Friday, I was expecting to leave early, I didn't expect this for sure," Cesar said. "So, when I walked in, I was pretty busy, as you can tell by the clothes I was wearing."

Seeing his son was a feeling he said he could not describe. Cesar also said he loves not having having one, but two sons serving in the army.

"My kids love it, they do great at it, and we still got two more going, hopefully, so the Army is what they do," he said.

Tazmin said his older brother inspired him to join.

"I've always wanted to go to the military, but I didn't know what branch, and I started talking to my brother a lot about it, and he really likes the army," Tazmin said.

Marissa Salas, Cesar's daughter, worked with her younger brother to plan his early homecoming.

"Originally, we told my dad (Tazmin) wasn't going to be able to make it, but the dad my dad is, he was planning this whole thing to go see him before Christmas, so we didn't want him to spend all that money to go see him before he came," Marissa said.

So, Tazmin came home before his father could go see him. Marissa said she loves knowing her siblings will be back home this Christmas.

"It'll mean so much more. It'll feel better, feel wholesome, instead of just me and (Cesar). On Thanksgiving, it was just me and him," Marissa said.
